Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 18, 2026
Hunch ("we", "us") is a forecasting app for small groups — friend groups, clubs, teams. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. Plain English — no tricks.
The short version
- We collect only what's needed to run the app: your email, a display name, and what you do inside Hunch (join groups, place trades, comment, settle up).
- Your activity is visible only to the groups you join. Nothing is public by default and nothing is shared with advertisers.
- We don't run third-party analytics, trackers, or ad SDKs.
- You can delete your account in-app, anytime, which strips your personal info from our database.
What we collect
You give us:
- Email address and password (password is hashed, we can't read it)
- Display name
- Optional profile bio and avatar image
- Optional Venmo handle (used only to help friends pay you when settling a bet)
- Your trades, markets, comments, reactions, and group memberships
Collected automatically:
- Push notification tokens (so we can send notifications you've opted into)
- Basic device info that the operating system exposes to any app (iOS/Android version, app version)
We do not collect:
- Your location
- Your contacts
- Browsing history or data from other apps
- Biometric data
How we use it
- To run the app: show you markets in your groups, match trades, settle bets, deliver notifications.
- To secure your account (password hashing, rate limiting, fraud prevention).
- To improve Hunch (by looking at our own database — no third-party analytics).
Who we share it with
Your data is shared with the groups you join — group members see the things you do inside those groups (trades, comments, holdings). Group membership is invite-only.
We use a few trusted infrastructure providers to run Hunch:
- Supabase (hosts our database, authentication, and avatar images). Supabase runs on AWS.
- Expo (delivers push notifications through Apple and Google's push services).
These providers process your data on our behalf under their own security commitments. We do not sell your data, rent it, or give it to advertisers.
Retention and deletion
- We keep your data for as long as your account exists.
- You can delete your account anytime from Settings → Delete account in the app. Deletion:
- Removes your email from our authentication system (you can no longer log in).
- Strips your display name (becomes "Deleted user"), profile bio, and avatar.
- Clears your push notification tokens.
- Your historical trades, comments, and settlements remain in the group's ledger — removing them would rewrite shared group history and break other users' records. They're attributed to "Deleted user" with no link back to you.
If you need your data removed more completely than the in-app flow allows, email the address at the bottom of this page and we'll work it out.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your data (available in-app)
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these, email the address below.
Security
- Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms (managed by Supabase Auth).
- All data transits over HTTPS.
- Database access is gated by row-level security — users can only read data from groups they belong to.
- We do not claim to be unhackable. No service can. If we ever have a breach that affects you, we'll notify you promptly and explain what happened.
Children
Hunch is not intended for users under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We don't knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
International users
Hunch is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the US, your data is transferred to and processed in the US under our standard safeguards.
Changes
If we materially change this policy, we'll notify users in-app and update the "Last updated" date above.
